Mango Salsa Not Up To Spec
Today I made two things with chile in them - a mango green chile salsa, and a "basic" red chile sauce. Both turned out very tasty, but I believe that the salsa was a little too mild while the red chile was a bit on the hot side (not for me, of course, but for others that may want to consume it).
How wrong I was. I took both items to the New Mexico State Fair and entered them in the Chile Competition. Here's the red, with its little ID tag attached:
After the judges tasted many different entries in several categories, my salsa was sampled and quickly passed over. Hmmph.
But that same judge, a self-proclaimed salsa expert, spent some time scowling at the little jar of mine
....and then had a slightly different opinion from previously on my salsa:
