Culinary Confessions
[I picked up this thread from David Leibowitz.]

I own the "Julia 1 & 2" set and have yet to cook anything out of them.

I check out pretty cookbooks from the library, the fluffy sort with authors whose names are Martha or Ina or Jamie, I look at the pictures, and then I take them back overdue.

I have sifted out flour weevils before using the flour.

I always crack my eggs directly into my "working" bowl instead of into a separate container.

I open the oven door for just a quick peek, when my oven light works just fine.

I purchase and use boneless skinless chicken breasts.

I just bought 2 cases of store brand canned tomatoes because they were on sale.

I do not know what pale orange substance is in that freezer container. Pudding? Sauce? Fat?

I throw out far too many fresh herbs.

I am slowly killing my one basil plant.

A big spoonful of natural peanut butter is the best before-bed snack.

Coffee is the best breakfast. Or pre-breakfast.

Sometimes you feel like a nut....

The most perfect food in the world? Ripe raw milk cheese. Oh, and fresh "weird" ice cream, like cardamom or basil. And crusty french bread with a cafe au lait. And rare seared liver. And 88% dark chocolate. And porridge. Always, porridge.

I believe one of the genius mass market food products in existence is the Egg McMuffin. Sometimes nothing, nothing else will do.
