Free Day Follies
Well, its the end of "free day" number three, after 21 days of a 12 week fitness/lifestyle challenge.
What does that garbage above all mean? Essentially, after keeping food intake under decent wraps for 6 days running, it does the body well to overload it for one day to just make sure the metabolism isn't slowing down and recharge muscle energy stores. This is sound advice, with lots of research backing it up - carb heavy to 'reset' the system is the way to go.
And yet, at the end of this day I just feel bloated and defeated.
So just why does pigging out all day suck? Eating lots of whatever-food-looks-good, not thinking much about its origin or final destination.... what is not to like about that? Frankly, because its not normal for me anymore to just eat what I feel like. Note that I didn't say, "what I want". Eating what you feel like eating is a very different thing from eating what you genuinely want/crave. I wasn't sure WHAT I wanted today, so I snacked on several different things that really tasted fine but were not hitting any "spot", gastronomic or otherwise. Ultimately, they were not satisfying.
I did, however, have a fantastic brunch meal earlier in the day. It was celebratory and punctuated by sips of mimosa, the perfect brunch beverage.
But in the evening after having another light (and rather healthy) meal, I was led into snacktation by the cathode ray tube. Dammit. Eating Cherry Garcia (a flavor which I used to absolutely love) while watching a dumb Tivo'ed show was so exquisitely unsatisfying that calling up Ben & Jerry to ask for my money back seemed like a good idea.
Then, salty licorice. Usually yummy, they were good for a few bites but those few bites turned into many gooey and overly salty mouthfuls and a slightly sore jaw.
I think it is time to drink a vat of water and go to bed, thinking of tomorrow when I can go back to that puritanical regimen that I recently have been calling normal.
