Fatalistic Fudge
Ah, sugar. Thou temptst me with thine heady promise of giddiness and energy, and woo me with divine tastebud-olfactory harmony.
And what better delivery mechanism for teeny crystals of pure hyperactivity than the food of the gods itself but theobroma cacao?
And what, pray tell, is a better combination of sugar + chocolate than fudge?
I likes me some chocolate. Dark and bitter and rich. I also love usually moderate doses of sugar, sprinkled on porridge or gently accentuating the flavor of a savory dish. But when they must be combined into the same morsel, fudge is an art form.
Every year I sample at least a few varieties of fudge from various cooks, yet the down-home favorite has got to be Liz's. So thanks for another year, and I'll just finish this piece and bounce off into the night....
