What People Get vs What People Want....
Found these links today on Amazon.com:

"Most Wished For Kitchen Items"

"Most Purchased Kitchen Gift Items"

Interesting how everyone wants the same things.... stand mixers, ice cream makers (!), food processors, etc. Also I noticed that the top "wished for" items were actually noticeably cheaper in individual cost than the most "gifted" items. Generous souls out there, ya'll.

Looking at stats like this really make one feel either at one with our fellow humans, or else depressingly average. You decide.

Funny thing about my ice cream maker. I was pretty sure I would never want to cramp my already overstuffed cabinets with Yet Another Kitchen Appliance (YAKA), but then friends bestowed one upon us as a moving gift. (Honestly, who gives something as large as an ice cream maker when they know you're shipping your entire household by mail?) The first use of the YAKA was reluctant, but since then it has fast become one of my favorite things. The best way to end a dinner on a hot summer eve is with fresh made ice cream / sorbet / sherbet / gelato. Word travels fast, and now every kid on the block has to have an ice cream maker of their very own!
