Running on Empty

I ran this morning, a glorious and overdue long loop, meandering through the foothills of the Sandias as the sun came over the hills and warmed my goosepimpled bare legs.

During the entire outing my brain was stuck on just one thought, and one thought alone.

Was it politics? Not a chance.

My running schedule for the rest of the fall? Nah.

What I needed to do the rest of the day? Not really.

It was on this:

Possibly due to the light fare I had eaten the day before, my stomach was rumbling and achy-empty from the moment I started my workout. I pushed on using whatever my body could scrounge up to fuel my muscles, then upon finishing I hopped in the car and skeedaddled to Wild Oats to sit in the sunny booths by the front door and eat, eat, eat.

Sugar at just any old time of the day - not always the best thing. Sugar plus a little protein immediately after a hard workout - perfect, sublime, necessary.

And what is frozen yogurt, really, but just another form of chocolate milk - dairy sweetened with sugar - in a chilled and spoonable state? Yum.
