Clash of the Colors
When I was far younger and a much more deliberate contrarian, one of my favorite color combinations was green & purple. Really, I'm not sure why, but putting those two vibrant hues in proximity just seemed appropriate to me, at least at the time.
I hadn't remembered that until a warm salad the other night brought back all of those memories, even if the colors were contained in a hearty edible mess rather than magic-marker-decorated doodles on my school notebooks....

Kale & Red Cabbage Braise (makes 2 cups) leftovers from some wonderful braised red cabbage fresh kale, rinsed & chopped lemon juice soy sauce
Saute the kale in a hot skillet using the liquid from washing to help with the steaming process. As it cooks, drizzle on some lemon juice and soy sauce to taste.
Warm up the braised cabbage and then toss with the kale. Eat langoriously in a heavy sweater, watching the air outside as winter comes at you full-tilt.Labels: cabbage kale purple green
